A Day in the Life of 3H Kids :A Day in the Life of 3H Kids

Our Day Begins :Our Day Begins Ring! Ring! There goes the bell. Every morning at 8:15 when I go to school I unpack my homework and my books. Then I copy my homework for the night. Next I D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read). I am reading The Bronze Pen. Then I do Math Message and the game called 24. This week’s one I know two different solutions. Finally I catch up on any unfinished work. - Jennifer

Pledge :Pledge “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America”… Hi my name is Nicole. I’m here to tell you about the pledge and more. When the bell rings at 8:30 the principal announces student’s birthdays and other things. Then one student every week says the pledge of allegiance. When they’re done we do the pledge to 3-H and then sing a song. After that we do the lunch count. Now we’re ready to get on with our day. -Nicole

Morning Work :Morning Work It all starts when we copy our homework. Everyday Mrs. Haring always writes on the board what we have to do for homework. We write in our notebook. When we are done, we do our Math Message. First, we do our 24 card. How to do it is when there are 4 numbers on the card and you can multiply, divide, subtract or add, to make 24. Then sometimes there is a big note pad that has math for us to write in our journal. After Our Math Message we can use this time to catch up on work in progress. Catch up is when we have to finish something because it we needed more time or we might have been absent. Finally, when we’re done, we pull a good book out and read until 9:00AM. - Nicole

Morning Meeting :Morning Meeting “It’s time for morning meeting,” Mrs. Haring said. We have morning meeting every day at 9:00. “Everybody take out you’re morning meeting folders and come to the rug”. At the rug we take out our greeting sheets. Every one says something on the sheet like “every one makes mistakes”. Then we do our Readers’ Theater. There is a different one each week. After that Mrs. Haring tells us what our day looks like. Then we go back to our desks and get going with our day. - Emily

LANGUAGE ARTS FOR A 3-H KID :LANGUAGE ARTS FOR A 3-H KID “Take out your spelling books.” Hi, I’m Caleb. I’m here to tell you what Language Arts is like for 3-H kids. Like in all schools, there’s a spelling test. We have a pretest & a test. The pretest decides who gets the challenge list and the regular list. The pretest is on Monday and the test is on Friday. In-between spelling test we work in our spelling book. There are five pages for every lesson. The first page of every lesson has the list of words. The next 4 pages have things like word searches or sentences to write. Next comes the practice book. It has pages on the story we are reading in our anthology. It has pages on grammar, spelling, and pronunciation. Now for Best Work. Best work is a piece of colored construction paper folded in half. We put one of last week’s papers in it that we are proud of and write a reflection paragraph about it. We do it every Tuesday. Each report period we bind it into Our Best Work Books. Next is the writing project. When we write, we go though the writing process. It can be anything from writing about raindrops to writing about dreams. Each week we practice our cursive handwriting. Handwriting comes after the spelling test on Friday. We do upper-case and lower-case in cursive. Last is Language Arts stations. They include, DEAR, board games, and free writing. Now you know what Language Arts is like for a 3-H kid. - Caleb

Computers :Computers Computers are fun because we can play on them. The websites I go on are multiplication.com, Study Island, and Microsoft word. We are very lucky to have 2 computers in our classroom and a cart called The COW, Computers on a Cart, that’s full of laptops.

Gym :Gym Gym is my favorite subject! Our gym teacher’s name is Mr. Vafiadis but we just call him Mr. V for short. We always start off with a jog. Then we do warm up stretches, such as butterfly, touching our toes, jumping jacks, crunches, and pushups. After that, we usually play a game. Sometimes we have what’s called free play where can play with any thing we want. In May, for Color Day we practice our event. When it’s nice outside we play outside. In gym, we do tons of sports games. That is why I picked gym because I LOVE SPORTS!!!! - Joe

Art :Art Yahhh, it’s that time of the day again…art! Today in art we worked on our portraits of a person that is special to us. I’m doing Clare. She is my friend. Another thing I like about art is that there is lots of color in all our materials. I love colors like ocean blue or ruby red. Do you know what project I liked most that we did in art …THE WEAVING. It had so much color, it was about to explode off the loom. Now that I have convinced you that art is the best subject …I want you to try it. Go, scurry off, start your art project…NOW! - Sydney

Library :Library “Books, books, books”, that’s all my library teacher says. Well not really. She loves to reads to us. We’ll do crafts & projects. We all know Mrs. Heise loves the library very much! Mrs. Heise is very funny because she often makes us laugh like when she reads a book with expression and makes it sound funny. Mrs. Heise is also a great reader too. 3H goes to the School District of Jenkintown’s library on Fridays. Mrs. Heise is also very sunny. Sunny means really happy!!!!! Abigail

Music :Music Music is my favorite special. Each week I absolutely love recorders because we get to learn a bunch of different songs. Jenkintones is at the end of the day when we go the gym and sing certain songs and on May19 we give a big show for all the parents, teachers, and school students. In music class, Mrs. Leiter gives us songs to sing. A few songs she has given us is This Was a Man, Columbus Crossed the See, Noah, and The Star Spangled Banner. She tells us a lot of stories like how she saw Martin Luther King Jr. in person and about Stradivarius. When it comes to the time of year, we are learning the orchestra families. We spend a lot of time on that, so we do something fun when we are finished. I LOVE MUSIC! -Emily

Lunch & Read Aloud Time :Lunch & Read Aloud Time Hi, I’m going to be telling you about lunch, lunch recess, and story in 3-H. At 12:00 am we go to Lunch Recess for ½ hour along with 4th- 6th grade. Outside there are swings, monkey bars, a castle, a blacktop, sand, trees, bleachers, slides, and a basketball court. For indoor recess when it rains or snow, we play knockout, color, 4- square, or games. Usually on Mon., Wed., and Fri. 3 people can go to the Library. There we can make crafts, play games, computers, and of course READ! After that we go to lunch. 3rd graders sit all alone. The cafeteria serves food like stuffed bread sticks, pizza, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, bagels, salad, French toast sticks, waffles, pancakes, & sandwiches. We go to lunch at 12:30- 1:00. Snacks are cookies, poptarts, chips, fruit slushies, & pretzels. Drinks are water, vitamin water, tea, milk, and flavor water. We pick up our trays and wait to get our food. 3-h kids love to read!! We sit around the rug as we listen to stories. My 2 favorites are BFG & The Sign of the Beaver. I think everyone liked the BFG. I loved 3-H!! - Clare

Math :Math 6 times 4 = 24. Why hello, do you want to know how we do math in 3H? The first thing that includes math is our math message. Math message is a question or questions that we have to figure out. There is also a 24question. 24 is a game that you have to add, subtract, multiply, or divide to get the number 24. We have math after lunch. First, we check our math then do math boxes and a lesson to learn something new. There is something special about Thursdays. We have a math test on Thursdays. Our math test has 100 multiplication questions. After we finish our math assignment, we play math games. MATH RULES! - Charlie

Recess :Recess Recess is GREAT!! We all go out on the playground .We play sports. We have fun. We play with balls. We play on the castle .We play basketball and I always win. Sometimes we play football. Last but not least, we play wall ball. It’s so much fun. We play it every single day! If it rains we still have fun and we play in the gym or in our classroom. - Jacob

Science :Science Math is over. It’s time for science. Usually when we start a subject Mrs. Haring reads a book about it. Then we do project. Next , we take a practice test. Finally, we take the test (usually hard). We have done lots of projects. My favorite Science project was the animal dioramas. RING! Time to go, see ya! - August

Social Studies :Social Studies Do you know what my class does for Social Studies? Well let me tell you. First off, we studied the Ice Age. The Ice Age was just a blanket of snow as far as the eye could see. Great beasts roamed the land. Giant hairy elephants called mammoths, and their enemies that were the saber tooth tigers roamed the land. The saber tooth tigers had 2 giant sabers like teeth for canines and for all to fear was man. Not man now, but cavemen with their new tool of fire. Next we studied the Early Native Americans time. They had 4 leaders. They were The Captain, The Chief, The Doctor, and The Priest. The Captain was the war guy. He armed his men with stone daggers, bows and arrows, and stone axes. The Chief was the leader of the tribe. He traded with other tribes and called meetings. The Doctor did what all doctors do, heal injured or sick people. Now the Priest was a must for worship. He led the people in worship for picking berries and the coming of salmon because the tribes believed that the spirits sent the fish and berries. Now we’re learning about the early settlers of America. - Colin

Buddies :Buddies Every Monday at 2:30 3-H meets with buddies! Buddies are fifth Graders who we play games with, go outside with and have fun! My buddies are Audrey and Lauren. Our buddies are very helpful to us. When we play math games they help us figure things out. I love buddies and I hope someday I’ll be a 5th Grade buddy to a third Grader. - Amelia

Third Grade Connections :Third Grade Connections Third Grade Connections are when both third grade classes get together. We often watch a movie about something we are studying in Social Studies or Science. On T.V. Turn Off Week we played board games in the gym. Third grade connections are on a Friday! Third Grade Connections is fun. - Jacob

Dismissal Time :Dismissal Time I will tell you about dismissal time. First, we get our coats. Then we get our book bags. Next, we put homework in our book bags and we put our water bottles in our book bags. Then we put our chairs up. We all get in line when the bell rings. Sometimes, we play a Henry & Henrietta. Henry & Henrietta is a game that you guess someone in our classroom that Mrs. Haring is thinking of. She gives us clues. After the final bell rings, we say “bye” to our teacher. I am happy to go home. - Richard
