Prefix and Suffix:

Prefix and Suffix The prefix and the suffix describe the root word. For example, they may refer to size or amount. Hypo = low or inadequate Hyper = high or excessive They may refer to a condition. For example: “ itis ” = inflammation They may refer to a characteristic. For example: “ logist ” = a specialist

Root words:

Root words They usually refer to a body part or a disease or condition For example: Cardio or cardia = refers to the heart Derma or dermato = refers to the skin Gastro or gastri = refers to the stomach
