Objective :

The TNLHES007 standard establishes that: Transportation & Logistics will identify and provide safe work practices and procedures; and facilitate their implementation through the use of Work Permits. Hazards shall be eliminated or controlled to the extent feasible in order to provide for the safety of personnel performing permitted work.

? Personnel safety is important to our organization and should be incorporated into all of our daily activities. A common work permit system standardizes best safety practices in personnel safety and uses that knowledge across company operations. Personnel safety includes: Hazard identification Hazard evaluation Precautions to minimize those hazards Proper communications A common system to enable hazard identification Evaluation – so that adequate steps are taken to ensure personnel safety, prior to and during, permitted work Overview: Why a common work permit?

Overview: Why a common work permit? Federal Standards, Company Policy,API and ANSI standards all require some type of process to manage and mitigate these hazards. The T&L work permit will be a process to support compliance with these requirements.

Overview: Work permit usage : 

This Work Permit Standard does not apply to operator performed cold work within T&L, for example, tank gauging and routine collecting of samples. Operations technicians are generally not required to seek permits for their work unless it involves hot work or confined space. Overview: Work permit usage A work permit is required forconstruction, maintenance, or repair work that occurs at or on any T&L facility or equipment. This program applies to all personnel: Consultant, agency, contract and subcontract – casual, full and part-time, that perform any work at or on any T&L facility or equipment.

Overview: Work permit usage The work permit should be completed after controls have been put in place, not used to direct what controls are needed. The work permit is the last step to ensure hazards are mitigated and controls or plans are in place to perform the job safely.
