I am a 5 year old trying to live a normal life. : I am a 5 year old trying to live a normal life. Slide 15: May 22, 2009 was no ordinary day. It was the day that my life changed FOREVER!!! That day I was diagnosed with Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes. : That day I was diagnosed with Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes. Slide 17: Type I diabetes does not come from eating too much sugar and there is no way to prevent it. Mom’s the best when it comes to changing out my infusion site! : Mom’s the best when it comes to changing out my infusion site! Daddy always let’s me squeeze his hand while we change out my needle. : Daddy always let’s me squeeze his hand while we change out my needle. I have to check my blood sugar every time I eat. : I have to check my blood sugar every time I eat. Slide 32: In one year I will have pricked my fingers almost 3,000 times. All of my food has to be counted or weighed. : All of my food has to be counted or weighed. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness and non-traumatic amputations and is the leading cause of nerve damage, stroke and heart attacks. : Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness and non-traumatic amputations and is the leading cause of nerve damage, stroke and heart attacks.
