Slide 1:

A Presentation on Satellite Communications Presented By Malathi

Slide 2:

To Communicate with any person we are using Telephones, CELL PHONES,INTERNET,EMAILand our ACTIONS also one of communication symbols

Slide 3:

To communicate our planets or earth we are using “SATELLITES” Definition: man-made equipment that orbits around the earth or the moon .

Slide 4:

Why do we use satellites..? As a planet, We use satellites for heaps of different reasons. The most common are for taking pictures of the earth to predict the weather and for the use of Gps devices. Satellites are very important because they can help predict some forms of natural disasters.

What is … :

What is … The use of artificial satellites to provide communication links between various points on Earth. One particular example of WIRELESS communication systems. Act as relay stations in space. Approximately 2000 artificial satellites orbiting Earth relay analog and digital signals carrying voice, video, and data to and from one or many locations worldwide.

History… :

History… The first artificial satellite “Sputnik”, built by Russia in 1957 signaled the beginning of an era. United States of America launched “Score” in 1958 which was the first artificial satellite with the primary purpose of communications. Other countries also ventured into this field later, including India. In 1962, Telstar1 is launched, resulting in the first transatlantic television via satellite. Syncom2, the first geosynchronous communications satellite was placed in orbit in 1963. Continued…

Slide 7:

INTELSAT was formed in 1964. The landing of U.S. astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin on the Moon is relayed to Earth via Intelsat III satellites on 20 July 1969. “Aryabhatta”, first Indian artificial satellite launched on 19 April 1975.

How it works… :

How it works… A typical operational link involves an active satellite and two or more earth terminals. One station transmits to the satellite – UP-LINK The satellite then amplifies the signal, converts it to the DOWN-LINK frequency, and transmits it back to Earth. The receiving terminal (station) picks up the signal. These signals may be Television, Radio, telephone calls or Internet connections.

Slide 9:

Satellite Orbits :

Satellite Orbits Orbit: Path of a satellite around a body which is stable under influence of gravity. Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO) Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) Low Earth Orbit(LEO) Elliptical Orbit Polar (Particular type of LEO)

Advantages… :

Advantages… Satellite communications have unique advantages over conventional long distance transmissions. Present satellites are capable of handling thousands of communication channels. Reliable More secure Flexible

Applications… :

Applications… Satellite communication is used in different areas Radio and TV broadcasting Telephone communication IP over satellite for ISPs Internet communications Global Positioning System (GPS)

Conclusion… :

Conclusion… Satellite communication is very widely used communication medium now-a-days. Huge investment required for building satellite communication system Nevertheless, many communication satellites exist in orbit providing communication link in vast areas like satellite telecommunications to direct broadcasting
