What Is a Process Analysis Paragraph? : 

What Is a Process Analysis Paragraph? Process analysis paragraphs usually take the form of how-to paragraphs. Their purpose is to guide the reader through a process to be performed. A good process analysis paragraph provides the reader simple steps that are easy to follow in order to achieve a specific goal.

Example of a Process Analysis Paragraph: 

Example of a Process Analysis Paragraph In order to record an audio CD several steps must be taken. First , rip or download the mp3 files of your desired music album. Second , get a burning program such as iTunes and install it on your computer. After that , run the burning program and add the mp3 files. When all that is done , the software should burn your audio CD. Now you can listen to an audio CD in any normal CD player.

Elements of a Paragraph: 

Elements of a Paragraph Topic sentence – states the main idea of the paragraph and tells the reader what the paragraph will be about. In this case, the topic sentence tells the reader what process they will complete. Example: In order to make brownies in the microwave, you will need to complete the following steps. Supporting Sentence(s) – supports the topic sentence. It should provide the steps needed in the completion of the process. The supporting sentences in a process analysis paragraph should be written in chronological order. Example: The first step is to gather all the ingredients: eggs, butter or margarine, flour and milk, Concluding sentence – tells the readers what they accomplish by completing the process. Example: By completing all the steps, you should have freshly baked brownies in no time.

Elements of a Process Analysis Paragraph: 

Elements of a Process Analysis Paragraph Chronology – the steps should be written in chronological order (from the first thing that should be done to the last). Clarity – each step must be clear, simple and concise. The reader should be able to follow each step clearly in order to achieve completion of the process. Explanation – in its essence, the paragraph should explain the process of how something is done.

Pre-writing Techniques Think of an activity, recipe or skill that you know very well. You must really dominate it in order to provide the details needed to teach this to somebody else. Choose all the things you need in order to do this activity: Ingredients Parts Equipment Time Needed Enumerate the steps needed in order to complete the activity from first to last. Decide how you will summarize this process to your reader. Does the reader have to take any special consideration? Is the process extremely complicated?

Writing the Process Analysis Paragraph After following all the steps you should have the outline for your process analysis paragraph. Now it’s time to put it all together. Write the first draft of the process analysis paragraph: Topic Sentence + Supporting Sentence 1 + Supporting Sentence 2 + Supporting Sentence 3 + Concluding Sentence
