Keeping us healthy in 2010 Slide 2: The Rutherford Unit of Arohanui Special School of West Auckland has 15 primary aged students. Arohanui provides for children and young people with profound to moderate intellectual dysfunction and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorder. These students often have low levels of personal independence and social participation. More than half of them can not read or write, nor verbalise their feelings. The Sneeze Safe program has provided an avenue whereby the students have been able to not only participate in a mainstream activity, but in the case of the Rutherford unit have had an opportunity to share what they have learnt with their mainstream peers. Slide 3: Their teachers have been so proud of their learning efforts and are eager to share some of their experiences with you… enjoy! Slide 4: We learned ‘what is a bug?’ with a making words activity Slide 5: We learned ‘germs are all different shapes and sizes!’ with a cut and paste activity Slide 6: We learned ‘germs spread everywhere if you don’t trap them!’ by ‘sneezing’ flour around our classroom Slide 7: Those bugs are everywhere! Watch Out for those BUGS! Slide 8: We took all our bugs and ‘hid’ them all around our school. Slide 9: We invited other classes to a ‘bug’ scavenger hunt! Slide 10: we read a book and played a Sneeze Safe game. We learned how to trap germs; Slide 11: Then we practiced… DO trap it Slide 12: Then we practiced… DO bin it Slide 13: Then we practiced… DO wash it Slide 14: We got stickers to show we have learned how to be Safe Sneezers! Slide 15: We pasted our photos onto the right posters. This shows we remembered what we had learnt. Slide 16: We went to the morning assembly and taught everyone how to sneeze so that you don’t share germs. NO bugs for us! All the children listened to our message of ‘Trap It’ ‘Bin It’ ‘Wash It’. They clapped for us. Slide 17: Three of us went back to the afternoon assembly. We taught them the same message. Now our whole school knows how to Sneeze Safe. Slide 18: The End You do not have the permission to view this presentation. In order to view it, please contact the author of the presentation.
