Welcome to Puerto Progreso

Progreso, Yucatán Peninsula:

Progreso , Yucatán Peninsula We visited the Dzibilchaltun ruins in Progreso . This area was a Mayan settlement and some artifacts excavated there date back to 700-800 A.D. The Spanish settlers came in the 1500’s and built the Catholic Church on the grounds. A cenote (freshwater pool) is used today for swimming, but was the only water source for the Mayan inhabitants.
