Rokeby is a long established suburb with a settled population, while Clarendon Vale is a much more recent development with a younger and more transient population. ‘When the Prunes met the Pearls…’: ‘When the Prunes met the Pearls…’ …Being an account of the interesting, fun and successful collaboration between CPOAC ‘mature’ volunteers and a local youth group – ‘World Is My Oyster’. + = The Project: The Project To provide and train a local youth group with the necessary skills to set up their own Wikispace. The Wikispace is used as a showcase for their activities and achievements.Participants – The Prunes: Participants – The Prunes Ernie – Wikispace Rod – Video Ken – Video editing The Pearls: The Pearls Our Pearls are a group of Aboriginal children, from the Rokeby primary and high schools, and the Clarendon Vale primary school, who go under the name of World Is My Oyster. This group is facilitated by Helen Foster and Phil Leed. Objectives: Objectives To update volunteer skills in Web2 technologies in order for the centre to remain relevant and accessible to all members of the community To provide training and facilities for local groups to create their own web spaces To encourage better integration and communication between both centres’ communities Outcomes: Outcomes The centres’ volunteers have been brought up-to-date with emerging technologies Their new skills have introduced the youth in the area to the advantages of collaborative web2 technologies, and to the role of the online access centre as an integrated part of the community Through this project, partnerships have been formed with other groups in the area, enhancing a sense of community spirit and cooperation In Conclusion...: In Conclusion...
