Why A dvanced P lacement ? How many 8 th grade students are 100% positive about what they want to be when they grow up? The AP -- Pirates Academy educates students to be successful in any career they choose. Students learn the study skills needed to take AP courses in 10 th grade!

Palm Bay High’s Advanced Placement Program: 

Palm Bay High’s A dvanced P lacement Program Students entering the 9 th grade A dvanced P lacement – Pirates Academy will receive the foundation necessary to be successful in the AP courses. Palm Bay High offers to all AP students a learning lab just for them. The lab will be staffed by AP teachers, the AP Guidance Counselor and the AP Academy Director. Palm Bay High School has one of the largest population of students participating in A dvanced P lacement courses and AP tests. This year, Palm Bay High School students will participate in 641 AP exams and is offering 16 different AP courses.

A DVANCED P LACEMENT Pirates Academy Program Goals Take a variety of AP courses to make them eligible for the Superintendent’s Diploma of Distinction. Complete a Junior Year Internship in a field that you are interested in pursuing as a major in college. Complete a Senior Year Capstone Project about the Internship. Fifteen hours of community service per semester.

Field Trips: 

Field Trips Lagoon House Students made oyster mats. Students planted mangroves. Barrier Island Research Center Students went on a nature hike to learn about different plants and animals native to Florida. Forever Florida Students learn about Florida history and the ecosystems.

AP Superintendent’s Diploma of Distinction Palm Bay High has 29 students in the Class of 2011 who are eligible for this honor. Nineteen of these students were graduates of the AP Pirates Academy. They will wear silver robes at graduation and will be among the first in their class to be announced. PIRATES Academy students are able to begin working on this diploma in 9 th grade. How do you earn this diploma? Take six AP classes in three different categories. Example: Math, History and English or History, Science, Math – any combination!
