I was the youngest and therefore never got as much attention but it was still nice to have a big family. 6. Were there any health concerns in your family? No 7. What did you do as a child for fun? I liked playing on my tricycle. My dad owned a groceries store and I used to like to try and play with the different foods. 8. As a teenager? I was interested in baseball. I liked reading books and playing comic books. 9. What was high school like in your days? I felt that I was treated more as an adult. There was no bus transportation and no uniforms. I went to Carl Schurz in Chicago, large school, where the students came from many parts of the area. 10. Did you play sports? Baseball 11. Did you ever struggle with self-esteem issues? To some extent. Everyone wanted to be part of a group. No one wanted to be alone. 12. Were you ever pressured into drugs or alcohol? No. smoking was a little common. Interview continued 13. How old were you when you had your first girlfriend? I was 12 years old. 14. How did you meet grandma? I met her at a Polish-American festival/ dance. 15. Did you go to college? Which? Yes. DePaul University and John Marshall Law School. 16. What did you study? I studied Law and the other regular courses. 17. Did you enjoy it? Yes. I felt that there were many injustices that I wanted to do something about. I wanted to understand society better through the study of law. I felt it would lead to a public title like being a councilmen or representative. 18. What some health concerns of the time period when you were in your 30s? They warned people a lot about the use of marijuana. They called it “crazy weed’ because they felt it would make a person crazy. Smoking was pretty much ignored after high school. 19. How has medicine changed since you were my age? Well, the biggest change was; when you were ill you would call a doctor and he would come to your house. Nowadays this never happens. Also, a lot of illnesses were cured in the doctor’s office, like psychiatry, whereas now they just give you pills. 20. How many hours of sleep do you get now and when you were my age? I got 9 hours when I was your age and 9 hours now. 21. How often do you visit the doctor? Annual checkups. If I develop a problem I see him. 22. Do you have good self-esteem now? Yes. Treadmill, walking, swimming...I just go to the gym about 3 to 4 times per week. 25. Do you consider yourself a healthy person? Yes.

How did the family come to America? :

How did the family come to America? Well, I don’t know anything about my family from my dad’s side. My Grandpa’s family on my mom’s side moved to America for a better life. They felt it held more opportunities, more freedom, and better financial success. They felt that there was just a higher chance to be overall successful in America. The 5 kids, including my grandpa, and their mom and dad took a huge ship to America. They left from Germany and from there they spent seven days on the ocean. He doesn’t know how or why Grandma’s family came here. He figures that they got her by boat though.

My Family’s Health History :

My Family’s Health History --I come from a pretty healthy family. (Mostly on my mom’s side.) My grandma dies at the age of 87 of a heart attack. She is extremely healthy for her age. My grandpa is 85 and is also extremely healthy. He exercises about 5 days per week and eats really healthy foods and/or proportions. My mom is fairly heavy, but I know that it’s because she does not have very much time to exercise and is too tired at the end of the day to make a healthier meal. But other than her weight she is pretty healthy too. (Oh, except she smoked for around 20 years, so I’m just praying she doesn’t get lung cancer.) But she is around the age of 50 and still has her normal brown hair. It hasn’t gone grey yet! --I don’t know much about my dad’s side of the family. I’m not in contact with him and I don’t want to make my mom uncomfortable. But I do know that he had a serious bipolar disorder. As far as I can tell though, neither me nor my siblings show symptoms of this illness. --I don’t find myself at a threat for inheriting any health problems. Because of my dad’s bipolar problem I am extra rigid when it comes to drugs. (A lot of them can trigger the problem apparently. So I am 100% drug free.) I’m not any more emotional than any teenager, in fact I think I’m less so, that’s good. So, I find myself very lucky. (And even if I did get the bipolar disorder, there have medicine for it nowadays.)

Hobbies/ Talents/Sports I love singing and songwriting. I am a member of the RBHS Advanced Women’s Ensemble. I LOVE traveling! I like Fashion. (But, not mainstream. I like Vintage Bohemian clothing.) I figure skate a little. I’m a huge animal rights activist and vegetarian. I’m also really into photography and fine art. Pets I have one pet named Ginger. She is a golden retriever. I used to have a beagle named Steve and a bichon named Lulu, but both of them died within the past couple of years. (Sad, but they both lived until the age of 16, so they lived a good long life.) Travel My favorite vacation was last year during spring break. My family and I went to Solvang, California. It was a very Dutch town with tons of Dutch restaurants and stores. It also had an incredibly green landscape. (The scenery was breathtaking.)

Slide 15:

Closest Friends Shannon McPike, Cat Vernon, Allie Johnson Schools Attended Country Montessori, Skripps Montessori, Bernardo Heights Middle School, Rancho Bernardo High School, Pacific View Charter (summer) School Clubs I am not currently in one. But next year I would really like to be in Animal Rights (like last year), Eco Club, and possibly Music Appreciation.

Health Triangle :

Health Triangle I think all of the areas of my health triangle are balanced. I am healthy physically, mentally, and socially. If one part was off balance, I would not feel like I’m at my highest potential. I would not feel whole. Physical I eat fairly healthy. I get enough exercise. (I would like to get more.) I drink a ton of water. I could use a little more sleep. I take a daily multi-vitamin. Mental I have extremely good self esteem and confidence. I don’t care what others say about me. Social I am not that social. I hang out with 3 people at lunch. I talk a lot during class. I am a family person. The only reason I’m not that social though, is because I am a quality over quantity person.

"Waiting On The World To Change“ By: John MayerMe and all my friends We're all misunderstood They say we stand for nothing and There's no way we ever could Now we see everything that's going wrong With the world and those who lead it We just feel like we don't have the means To rise above and beat it So we keep waiting Waiting on the world to change We keep on waiting Waiting on the world to change It's hard to beat the system When we're standing at a distance So we keep waiting Waiting on the world to change Now if we had the power To bring our neighbors home from war They would have never missed a Christmas No more ribbons on their door And when you trust your television What you get is what you got Cause when they own the information, oh They can bend it all they want That's why we're waiting Waiting on the world to change We keep on waiting Waiting on the world to change It's not that we don't care, We just know that the fight ain't fair So we keep on waiting Waiting on the world to change And we're still waiting Waiting on the world to change We keep on waiting waiting on the world to change One day our generation Is gonna rule the population So we keep on waiting Waiting on the world to change We keep on waiting Waiting on the world to change I think this song represents me because I feel like this is exactly how the world is. We sit and watch but we never do anything. I really hope this changes soon. I want to help the world.

Self-Portrait :

Self-Portrait This drawing may seem a little familiar because it is of the photo I used for my introduction to this class. I felt like doing something to play with the style of the portrait. I didn’t want it to supposed to look exactly like me because I’m not that great of an artist. But I feel it represents me because it is artistic and slightly off-beat but still really cool. Now that I look back though, I wish I had done the t-shirt a different color. Oh well.

Future Aspirations :

Future Aspirations

Slide 26:

My Mommy My mom does so much for me. She is always working so hard in order to pay for my family’s life. She is constantly striving to pay equal amounts of attention to my siblings and I. She is always there for me and supports everything I do. I don’t know what I would do without her. I mean, I would physically be able to support myself, but I would be lacking something mentally and socially. Like I said in the health triangle, I would not feel whole.

Slide 27:

Dear Mom, I love you so much! I don’t know what I would do without you. Even though we fight occasionally, I just want you to know that I really appreciate you. You work so hard for all of us and I do recognize this. I really admire you and I hope I am half the mom you are when I’m older. You are the main reason I am who I am today. I really don’t know what I would be like if you weren’t my mom. You are the reason I have learned to love life and question it so much. Thank you! Love, Figgie

In three years… :

In three years… -- I see myself doing so many things. I see myself being a singer, a humanities major, a fashion and jewelry designer, an artist, a photojournalist, quantum physicist, and/ or an archaeologist/ historian major. (Obviously no more than two of those at a time.) --I see myself in a very rewarding relationship. I would probably still be living with my family, but that is fine with me. I wouldn’t want it any other way. I would miss my family if I wasn’t with them. --I see myself living in a beautiful town with non-imported trees and lots of greenery. A place with lots of exciting weather that changes by the season and with independently owned stores.

In 5 years… :

In 5 years… -I see myself being one of the things I was studying. I may be a humanities teacher, a quantum physicist, an artist, or a singer. I don’t know where I will be. I don’t know what I want to do because I change my idea every month. (I will probably still be studying something though, I’m interested in so many things.) -In 5 years I will be living in my own apartment or house if I win the lottery. But I will still live very close to my family. I will visit them as often as I can. Hopefully, I will be in a relationship that may be “THE” relationship. --I know that in 5 I will be living in a town that I want to live in. I will be saving money for a house that will be able to support me and my future family. I will also be paying off my college credit.

In 10 years… :

In 10 years… -I have absolutely no idea where I will be in 10 years. It’s impossible to tell. I hope I will be alive and healthy. (That the world wont end in 2012. haha) I will hopefully be starting a family. I will hopefully be making a decent amount of money in order to support my family. This will probably never happen, but I really want to make enough money to pay for my own family’s house and a house for my mom. She has done so much for me, I really want to be able to pay her back in a way I find good enough for her.

If I could accomplish one thing… :

If I could accomplish one thing… it would be to make enough money to be able to buy my mom a house when I’m older. Or instead, unless I marry a millionaire that probably wont happen, to at least insure her to be able to retire early. (or at all) I really feel like I owe her a lot. I’m such a weird teenager. I really just want to make a difference on other people’s lives. I want to live a happy and comfortable life first, but that’s pretty easy, but after that is promised I really just want to help people in any way possible. I’m not religious at all, but I would love to go to Africa at some point and help build a school. (And if I do become a billionaire, I want to help fund different schools, especially the art departments.) I feel like these programs get so little attention, but where would this world be without art?

Media Awareness :

Media Awareness

Opinions on the Media :

Opinions on the Media I think the media has a huge influence on most people. But for me, I really don’t care about the new fashion trends the celebrities find cool. I like looking at the outfits some of the stars where that I find similar to my style though. I’m not going to change what I wear, which is really more WHO I am, in order to “fit in”. I’m not very mainstream. A lot of my favorite musical artists are ones that nobody has ever heard of or artists from the 70’s and 80’s. I just don’t really care a lot about the glamorous world. I would love to be a singer simply for the music. Not for the fame; I don’t want 5 million photographers stalking me down all the time. I find that some of the more mainstream artists are brilliant and no one even understands why. I see Lady Gaga as one of the most genius musical artists this country has had in a long time. She plays stupid because she knows she will get more money, but she is most definitely not stupid. Anyways, my point is that I like QUALITY stuff and I don’t care if other people don’t have good taste. As long as I do, that’s all that matters.
