1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food Our body needs food to: Obtain energy to perform physical activities Build new tissues & replace old and damaged tissues in body Maintain the health of the body

1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food Food can be divided into SEVEN categories:

Slide 4:

CARBOHYDRATES

Slide 5:

PROTEINS

Slide 6:

WATER

Slide 7:

1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food Food can be divided into SEVEN categories: Carbohydrates (Karbohidrat) Proteins (Protein) Water (Air) Vitamins (Vitamin) Fibres @ Roughage (Serat) Fats (Lemak) Minerals (Mineral)

CARBOHYDRATES

1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food CARBOHYDRATES Carbohydrates are organic compound made up of: ~ carbon ~ hydrogen ~ oxygen

1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food Carbohydrates are formed by simple sugar (gula ringkas) that are joined together. Carbohydrates can be divided into three types based on the number of simple sugar in them:

1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food Sources of carbohydrates: Starchy food (makanan berkanji) ~bread, rice, potato. Sugary food (makanan bergula/manis) ~honey, fruits, sugarcane, milk. Cellulose (makanan berserat) ~those found in plant cell walls.

1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food Functions of carbohydrates: To supply energy to the body cells (sel-sel badan) As stored food in animals and plants cells.

Slide 21:

PROTEINS

1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food PROTEINS Proteins are organic compound made up of: ~ carbon ~ hydrogen ~ oxygen

1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food Properties of proteins: The basic unit of proteins is amino acid. Most proteins have large and complex molecules. There are two classes of proteins: Class one proteins (animal proteins) Class two proteins (plant proteins)

Slide 24:

1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food Functions of proteins: For the growth of the body. To form new cell and replacing damaged cells. To provide energy. To form enzymes, hormones, hemoglobin and antibodies.

Slide 26:

WATER

1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food WATER Water makes up ¾ or 70% of our body weight. Functions of water To dissolve chemical in our body. To transport digested food, oxygen and excretory substance such as urea and lactic acid. To regulate and maintain body temperature. To assist smooth peristalsis. To regulate the pressure of body fluids.

1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food The main sources of water are fresh fruits, vegetables and drinking water. Water is lost through: Perspiration Respiration Urination Defecation The loss of 20% of water in the body can be fatal. So an adult must drink at least 2.5 litres of water daily to replace water lost.

Slide 29:

VITAMINS

1.1 Classes Of Food :

1.1 Classes Of Food VITAMINS Vitamins are organic compounds needed in small amounts by our body for health and growth. Vitamins are divided into two groups: Water soluble vitamins (vitamin larut dalam air) ~vitamins B and C Fat soluble vitamins (vitamin larut dalam lemak ~vitamins A, D, E and K

Slide 34:

FIBRES

1.1 Classes of Food :

1.1 Classes of Food FIBRE Fibre is also known as roughage. Fibre is made up of cellulose from plant cell walls. Sources of fibre: Fruits Vegetables Cereals (bijirin) Fibre can’t be digested by our body. Functions of fibre: Fibre can prevent constipation (sembelit). This is because fibre can hold a lot of water so that our faeces (najis) remain soft and can pass from our body easily.

Slide 36:

FATS

1.1 Classes of Food :

1.1 Classes of Food FATS Fats are compounds of carbon, hydrogen & oxygen. Fats consist of smaller units of fatty acids combined with glycerol. Fat is stored under the skin or around organs in our body. Functions of fat: Helps to keep our body warm & protects organs from damage. Helps to transport vitamins A, D, E & K. Fat can store a lot of energy.

Slide 38:

MINERALS

1.1 Classes of Food :

1.1 Classes of Food MINERALS Minerals are inorganic substances needed by our body in small amount. Lack of minerals can causes diseases.

Lack of Calcium :

Lack of Calcium Rickets Rickets Osteoporosis (tulang rapuh) Prolonged bleeding Muscular cramps (kekejangan)

Lack of Iodine :

Lack of Iodine GOITRE (bengkak pada kelenjar tiroid di leher) CRETINISM (tumbesaran terbantut)
