Slide 2:Trovadores
Slide 3:Trova music in Yucatan is called "Trova Yucateca“
Is a romantic music comprising three genders:
Bambuco
Bolero
ClaveTrova music is performed by "Trios", mainly using guitars and other instruments like "maracas" and "claves". Trova music is a "mestizo" music
Slide 4:Trova music is dedicated to love, women, and sometimes to Merida.
It is played in special events called "Serenatas" or serenades which can be public events or very personal.
Women teenagers love personal "Serenatas", particulary brought to home, at midnight when it is "supossed" the girl is laying in her hammock sleeping. Purposes are variable, they are brought mainly by the man to declare his love for the girl.
Slide 5:When "Serenata" begins the girl firstly checks up who is bringing it. Even it is not the guy she likes, she stays at home, NEVER shows up during the "serenata".
Then... day after...Â
The man brings flowers and sometimes a poem to her, and if she says "yes" they become boyfriends. This tradition is slowly disappearing.Â
It was vivid 35 years ago...
Slide 6:Yucatecan folks still love trova music
Even "serenatas" are no so common as in before, we still love trova music.
Â
Trova music is still alive. It is part of our identity.
