The “Jarana Yucateca” :The “Jarana Yucateca” Is a typical dance habitants of Yucatan have been performing for centuries during a folkloric festivity called “vaquería”
The Jarana is a hybrid of the ‘Spanish Jota’ and ‘Mayan tribal dances’
The Jarana Music :The Jarana Music Jarana music is performed by a “Orquesta Jaranera”, comprised of 15-25 musicians.
Costumes for dancing Jarana :Costumes for dancing Jarana Women wear their best embroided “ternos”, flowers on their hair and white heels.
Men wear white hat, linen white clothes with a red or white embroided bandana tucked in their waist, and mayan sandals called “alpargatas”.
Jarana is also a challenging dance :Jarana is also a challenging dance Dancers sometimes balance a beer bottle on their head.
Sometimes the challenge is to dance balancing a tray containing four glasses and one beer bottle.
