IMPORTANCE OF HOUSEKEEPING Housekeeping department is considered as the backbone of hotel because they are the people who can make customers happy or unhappy.
The housekeeping department is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the entire hotel. One of the first impressions a guest forms when he walks into a hotel is a reflection on the housekeeping department - how clean, and well maintained the surroundings are. No hotel can function without this department because it oversees everything from guest rooms, public areas, laundry, linen, horticulture and flower arrangement, and maintenance housekeeping machinery.
If sheets are soiled, blankets are rough and scratchy, pillows thin and non-supportive and shower curtains are moldy and stained, the entire image of the hotel is tarnished and the guest most likely will not return.

The Housekeeper is the only departmental head who has access to every department. The only departmental head to maintain relation with other departmental head and thus obtains an overview of the entire operation.
The housekeeping staff are the eyes and ears of the management. The guest forms his impressions by seeing the furnishing, spotlessly clean, and air odor free room. Hence it plays a major role in retaining or loosing of a guest.
The major considerations of customers in choosing a hotel to check in is the cleanliness and coziness. By merely observing the cleanliness of a place, it already reveals all other types of services that hotel can offer.
It also gives a comforting atmosphere to the possible customers because they felt that the hotel takes care and considers there comfort. If the eyes are the minors of the soul, cleanliness of the hotel reveals the type of service that a certain hotel can offer. Though strict observation of cleanliness, hotel is in great chance of inviting and persuading a lot of customers to check in. since hotel is a business, it is sure to meet its purpose of earning so this cleanliness is done by housekeeping so the housekeeping is the backbone of hotel.
