What enduring understandings are desired?” Stage 2: Think like an assessor. “…checks of understanding such as oral questions, observations and informal dialogues, quizzes, tests and… performance tasks…” Stage 3: Purposeful Action. “What activities will equip students with the needed knowledge and skills?”

Strengths & Weaknesses of Backward Design Strengths Helps in looking at the BIG picture Allows teacher to determine what to teach for understanding by using 4 filters Teacher can establish curricular priorities Weaknesses To come up with assessments before deciding on lessons may be difficult to do Deciding what content is worthy
