By Chaz Tyra, Critical Thinker Brief History : Brief History “…the teaching practice and vision of Socrates 2,500 years ago who discovered by a method of probing questioning that people could not rationally justify their confident claims to knowledge” (Brief History 1997). What’s the point? : What’s the point? Critical thinking allows us to break down problems we are faced with and get to the root of the problem. Doing this allows us to solve a problem permanently rather than temporarily. Who applies this in the real world : Who applies this in the real world Nurses and doctors think critically all the time to solve medical mysteries. Factors! : Factors! What affects critical thinking? A study found done by Susan Gross Forneris & Cynthia Peden-McAlpine has shown that power, culture, and dialogue affect critical thinking. What else? : What else? Another idea to help people think critically is thinking out loud. This helps you state ideas and process them again from a different perspective and possibly gain new insight into the problem you are faced with. What about me? : What about me? Critical thinking helps the college student with current and future problems by developing a faster problem solving process in the brain. Use on assignments : Use on assignments Critical thinking helps everyone get through tough assignments with ease. When researching topics, having an idea of the topic and things related to it will expedite the research portion of the assignment, thus giving you more time on formatting and depth. Then what? : Then what? Critical thinking will help you get through college and will give you skills necessary in your future career. It will please your superiors when you are Johnny on the spot with information and solutions in the ever changing world. Conclusion : Conclusion In closing critical thinking is a valuable tool that all people must use in order to get through life and become successful.
