Introduction of Automobile Industri:

The Indian Automobile Industry is manufacturing over 11 million vehicles and exporting about 1.5 million every year. The dominant products of the industry are two wheelers with a market share of over 75% and passenger cars with a market share of about 16%. Commercial vehicles and three wheelers share about 9% of the market between them. About 91% of the vehicles sold are used by households and only about 9% for commercial purposes. Entry Barriers:

Maruti For a new company, the startup capital required to establish manufacturing capacity to achieve minimum efficient scale is prohibitive. Switching costs is not so high encourages foreign and domestic companies to bring in new models and enter the industry. Product differentiation and promotion supports new entrants – Tata Nano in a new segment. Access to distribution channels is not difficult – can be done by Joint ventures (ex. Core Competency:

core competency is the strength of a product manufacturer or seller that is unique and difficult for competitors to replicate. Competitive advantage is gained by offering more value to the customers than the competitors’ offerings. For example, Maruti Suzuki has attained core competency with its customer service in the Indian automobiles industry. Even though, there are several auto companies in India, both national and international, none of them have really been able to reach Maruti Suzuki’s level of customer service . Core Competency
