This is the story of why I RelayPowerPoint Presentation: In March of 2011 my father was diagnosed with highly aggressive Prostate Cancer. He had a gleason score between 8-10 on all 13 biopsy sites. He had no choice but to have surgery. On this day we became a family battling cancer.PowerPoint Presentation: Dad was told about Relay for Life though long time customers. We looked into it and signed up for the survivor lap. After attending the Relay we were moved by the event so much, I knew we would get a team together.PowerPoint Presentation: Dad’s surgery was June 28 th , 2011. This was the longest 5 hrs of our lives. The procedure went well but they found the cancer had spread outside the prostate. We began the long recovery process, praying his PSA’s would be normal.PowerPoint Presentation: Due to urging from Dad’s surgeon regarding the aggressive nature of his cancer they recommended radiation immediately. Dad started radiation Feb 2012 going 5 days a week for 7 ½ weeks. On the last day of radiation my Dad had to attend his father’s funeral.PowerPoint Presentation: As a caregiver I feel helpless watching my father struggle. Watching your loved one fighting for their lives and not able to help is torture. Relay has helped my dad focus away from his struggle, knowing he is helping others. For me Relay brings my dad and I closer, which helps me feel a part of his fight.PowerPoint Presentation: In Nov 2012 Dad’s PSA was now stable and he can go every 6 months for check-up. The surgeon has told my dad he is lucky to be alive. Dad knows this and intends to live his life to the fullest!PowerPoint Presentation: Without the support of our friends, family and co-workers, we could never fight as hard as we had or have the hope we do.
