Being given royal borough status is a rare event and there are only three other royal boroughs in London: Kensington & Chelsea Windsor & Maidenhead Kingston-upon-Thames The title is being granted to Greenwich in recognition of the close links between Greenwich and the monarchy and Greenwich's global significance as a World Heritage Site.
