COACHING 4 MINISTERS PRESENTS 5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process:

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process Developing a leadership strategy process: leadership is about process as much as it is about technique. It must be tailored to meet specific ministry needs. Begin with a well thought-out strategy. Get the right people, and develop a long line of leaders . Mission strategy is the sail; leadership strategy is the ballast.

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process:

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process Passionate commitment to the mission must be cultivated . Here is a 5-Step Leadership Strategy: Understand your ministry strategy and the process you use to develop it . Identify vision makers and the dreams that motivate them . Far too often our time is absorbed with squeaky wheels . Visions among leaders are not always the same.

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process:

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process The members of your team have goals, dreams and visions, and a leader must find a way to merge them. Drill down to the real motivations. Not understanding the dreams of team members causes you to miss the best way to motivate them . Create a shared dream and vision. If your dream can be aligned with the team members, the synergy will be powerful. (Get people to align with you. If you don’t, you will lose good people.)

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process:

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process Turn the shared dream and vision into a leadership strategy and then into a solid plan of action—targets, goals, and milestones. Turn accomplishments into celebrations . Combine your ministry strategy with your leadership strategy. Know what your leaders’ dreams are. Jesus developed 12 men to be responsible for the corporate strategy after he left. Remember , it’s all about Jesus and His vision for the world.

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process:

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process You cannot just focus on today, you must build for tomorrow.

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process:

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process Strategic Planning—Why Should We Care ? Change is happening at an alarming rate today. According to Barna , 80 to 85 percent of all churches in America have either plateaued or are in decline or is dying . Most churches struggle with dealing with a postmodern lifestyle. Pastors must deal with a congregation in a market that changes almost every day. “ Sound, strategic direction has never been more important.”

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process:

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process The men of Issachar understood the times and knew what Israel should do. Paul lived strategically . There is no magic bullet for successful ministry. We need strategic planning. Below is the nine-step strategic planning process : Ministry Analysis – what kind of church are we ? Values Discovery and Development – the hidden motivators for every decision.

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process:

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process Mission Development – what is the mission? “What is the business we are in ?” Environmental scan – be in touch and be relevant (without changing values). Anticipate changes; be proactive. Most churches are stuck in the culture of their generation. Vision development – articulate a clear vision for what could be. It is directional, and helps people see the future .

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process:

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process Strategy development – how do we get there? Who are the people we serve? What do we need to get there? It must be constantly changes. Strategy Implementation – where do we need to begin? What should we do next? What resources do we need? Priority lists are needed . Ministry contingencies – how will we handle pleasant and unpleasant things that could occur. Ministry evaluation – how are we doing? People do what we inspect, not what we expect.

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process:

5 Step Leadership Strategy & 9 Step Strategic Planning Process Have a philosophy of change. Every institution must wrestle with what must change. Deal with function and form. Functions are timeless and should not change (values, mission and purpose). It must not change them except to rephrase them. Forms are timely and are tied to the culture. We cannot confuse the two—forms must constantly change.
