What is CTAP? : 

What is CTAP? California state-mandated program Provides assistive telephone equipment and accessories to people who have difficulty using a standard telephone Administered by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) A common misconception: CTAP is not the telephone company!

Requirements : 

Requirements Three requirements to be eligible for CTAP: Live in California Have telephone service Have difficulty using a standard telephone That’s it!

Who Does CTAP Serve? : 

Who Does CTAP Serve? There is no cost, obligation, age, or income requirement for this state-mandated program! Anyone with difficulty seeing, hearing, speaking, moving, or remembering can apply. Difficulties do not have to be severe – individuals with mild or moderate difficulties are also eligible for this program!

How is CTAP funded? : 

How is CTAP funded? By a small surcharge on all Californian’s telephone and cellular phone bills Surcharge is listed as: “Relay Service and Communications Devices Fund“ Money collected pays for both CTAP and California Relay Service (CRS); available to all Californians The Program is administered by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC)

CRS AND CAPTEL : 

CRS AND CAPTEL California Relay Service (CRS) Allows TTY users to communicate with people who use a standard telephone Specially-trained operator relays messages between the TTY and non-TTY users To use, simply dial 7-1-1 Available in English and Spanish 24/7 Speech to Speech Service (STS) Part of the CRS For speech-disabled individuals who others have difficulty understanding on the telephone Specially-trained operator re-voices the message to the other party on the call Service is free and is available to all users

How to Apply – 3 Easy Steps STEP 1 Call 1-800-806-1191 to get an application or download an application from www.DDTP.org STEP 2 Applicant completes sections 1 and 3, and Certifying Agent completes and signs section 2 STEP 3 Mail, fax, or bring your application to a CTAP Service Center

CTAP Equipment Exchange Policy : 

CTAP Equipment Exchange Policy Please choose your equipment carefully because we want to provide you the most appropriate phone. CTAP will repair or exchange equipment if 1) the equipment loaned to the consumer stops working or malfunctions or 2) the consumer's disability certification changes. Please return your equipment with all original parts in the manufacturer’s packaging.

CTAP Equipment Distribution Events : 

CTAP Equipment Distribution Events Organized by a CTAP Outreach Specialist A CTAP Certifying Agent is scheduled to be onsite to provide free testing/screening for consumers who do not have access to a Certifying Agent After being certified by the onsite Certifying Agent, consumers can receive equipment the same day!
