Objectives; To find out about the beliefs of Muslims. To find out how Muslims act upon their beliefs.

Muslims are expected to believe and act upon their beliefs. It is not enough for a Muslim just to believe or just to act

One god [Allah] : 

One god [Allah] Islam teaches that there is only one God. He has no family or partners He is the only one whom people should worship. Everyday a Muslim will say; “There is no God but Allah and Muhammad his messenger.”

His angels : 

His angels Angels are gods servants who carry out His orders. They bought Gods message to the prophets, including Muhammad himself. Other angels spend their time keeping records of human actions. But they cannot be seen by us.

His books : 

His books Muslims believe that God has given all humans guidance through his prophets. There have been a number of holy books, including the old and new testament [the bible] But only the Qur’an has not been changed by human beings. So only the Qur’an is perfect and will never change. The Qur’an therefore is the final word of God.

His prophets : 

His prophets The Qur’an mentions 25 prophets by name. Most of them also appear in the Bible. The first was Adam and the last was Muhammad. Muslims believe that they were all sent by God to show people how he wanted them to live.

The Day of Judgement : 

The Day of Judgement When this day comes, all dead people will come to life and be questioned about their lives. It will not be the effect of their actions that matters’ It will be what people intended their actions should do. When this happens, God will judge us. Only God can judge and only God can forgive the wicked. People can earn his forgiveness through prayers and actions.

The Will of God : 

The Will of God God has created the world and, at all times, remains in control of the world. He has complete knowledge of what will happen in the world. However, people face many choices each day. They can do bad or they can do good. God expects people to make choices. So we are still responsible for our actions

Life after Death : 

Life after Death Those who obey God will go to Paradise. There, they will live forever a life of peace and happiness. Those who disobey God will go to Hell, where life will be miserable. Only God knows exactly what it is like in Paradise and Hell. Muhammad said there were things in Paradise which no eye has ever seen, no ear ever heard and no one can imagine.

The Five Pillars of Islam : 

The Five Pillars of Islam Islam and its beliefs are built around the Five Pillars of Islam. It is like a house which is built upon strong foundations. Each pillar represents a belief 1. SHAHADAH- declaration of faith. 2. SALAT - prayer 3. ZAKAT – giving alms [charity] 4. RAMADAN/SAWM – fasting 5. HAJJ – going on pilgrimage [special trip]
