Slide 2:

Whether you’re mixing your own margaritas at home or enjoying the concoctions of an experienced bartender, it’s helpful to understand the three types of agave tequila and how each one offers a different flavor to the icy glass of refreshing perfection.   Agave , grown in Jalisco and a few other locations in Mexico, is the plant that provides the sweet syrup used to produce officially recognized tequilas. There are three types of tequilas made entirely from agave that are specifically produced for mixing in beverages such as margaritas:

Blanco – This tequila is not aged after it’s distilled, and the flavor imparted to the margarita has more of the agave’s essence. It is described by some as distinctively earthy . Reposado – This is tequila that has been aged for two months to a year, and the taste develops a smooth finish with little of the bitter overtones . Joven – This tequila is a combination of the blanco and reposado tequilas, and due to its origins offers the smoothness and richness of flavor that is the basis for an excellent margarita.
