CANADA PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAMS: FEATURES IN 2018:

CANADA PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAMS: FEATURES IN 2018 For the  Provincial Nominee Programs  in Canada 2018 was eventful. These Programs emerged as a prominent pathway for economic immigration. Moreover, there is an enhancement in the admission targets for the current year, and their importance will also increase further. Great progress When the Canadian PNP was launched in 1996, it admitted 233 new immigrants only. There was also exponential growth in the program over the years. The admission target for Canadian PNPs in 2018 was 55,000. As per the Multi-year Immigration Plan, Canada plans to admit 61,000 new permanent residents in the present year. For 2021, it has set the target at 71,300. Here is a look into the major developments in Provincial Nominee Programs to happen in 2018.

Ontario:

Ontario Ontario was at the top in allocating 6600 nominations among various provinces/territories in 2018. In the year-end, this number increased to 6850. Furthermore, for 2019, it is seeking an allocation of 7600. Moreover, during 2018, Ontario used three streams with a link to Express Entry and issued 6,978 invitations to EE candidates.  These were: French Speaking Skilled Worker Stream (1,633 invitations) The Human Capital Priorities Stream, (3,719 invitations) Skilled Trades Stream  (1,626 invitations) Previously, the EE candidates wishing a consideration under the HCP Stream of Ontario needed a minimum score of 400 CRS points. Then there was a revision in the requirement and presently, the director of the program determines the minimum score. In three rounds of 2018, minimum CRS requirement was 350 only.

Manitoba:

Manitoba Manitoba commenced a new immigration pathway aligned to Express Entry in Jan 2018. This stream also works on the basis of an Expression of Interest model. From Jan 11 to July 9, 2018, Manitoba issued invitations to 1155 EE candidates to seek the provincial nomination. Alberta The province commenced a new immigration pathway aligned to Express Entry in June 2018. The criterion for the candidates in the stream was to get a minimum score of 300 in CRS. Moreover, it issued 596 invitations in the EE Stream. Nova Scotia The province commenced a new stream aligned to Express Entry in 2018. The Labor Market Priorities Stream held a single draw and also issued 314 invitations.

Saskatchewan:

Saskatchewan In July 2018, Two popular pathways of Occupation In-Demand sub-categories and International Skilled Worker Express Entry of SINP shifted to Expression of Interest system. Moreover, the province conducts regular draws. Prince Edward Island PEI made a few changes in the Expression of Interest system in 2018. The EE candidates do not need a job offer here but the applicants who live and work in PEI get a priority. The Provincial Nominee Programs are gaining prominence in Canada.
