Each year, 6.3 million pregnant women and newborns die 99% of maternal deaths occur in developing nations

South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa have the highest maternal mortality rates in the world These countries also have the lowest rates of antenatal healthcare for pregnant women Up to 80% of women in rural areas worldwide have no access to health care

But without access to screening, women are unaware of their life-threatening complications Many of these deaths could be prevented with simple treatments

Slide 4:

Urine Dipsticks are the simplest and cheapest method to screen for these conditions At ~50¢ each they are too expensive for widespread use in developing countries
