Solving Fractional Equations

Slide 2: 

Equations with fractions: you should “clear the fraction” as shown below: First, find the common denominator Multiply the ENTIRE equation by the common denominator Distribute the common denominator to EACH term And multiply ! 4x + 3 = 12x - 2 Subtract 4x from both sides 3 = 8x - 2 Add 2 to both sides 5 = 8x Divide by 8 5/8 = x The common Denominator is 12!

Here’s another example! 6x – 5 = 2x - 30 4x - 5 = - 30 4x = - 25 X = -25/4 Find the common denominator Multiply ENTIRE equation by the common denominator Multiply EACH term by the common denominator Subtract 2x from both sides Divide both sides by 4 Add 5 to both sides
