Performance Elements : 

Performance Elements Physical Presence: Present yourself well and be attentive. Look confident. Engage your audience. Look them in the eye.

Voice and Articulation : 

Voice and Articulation Project to the audience. Proceed at an appropriate and natural pace Do not recite rhyming poems in a sing-song manner Make sure you know how to pronounce EVERY WORD in your poem Know where and how long to pause

Appropriateness of Dramatization : 

Appropriateness of Dramatization Do not act out the poem Occasional gestures may be appropriate, but be careful not to overdo them Avoid monotone delivery or too much enthusiasm

Level of Difficulty : 

Level of Difficulty Select poems of various styles, time periods and tones A longer poem is not necessarily a harder poem

Evidence of Understanding : 

Evidence of Understanding Be attentive to the messages, allusions, irony, tones of voice and other nuances of your poem You must understand the poem FULLY in order to perform it well Choose how you will perform the poem based on what you know about it

Accuracy : 

Accuracy Be sure you know all words in the correct order and do not omit any or change any words to other words There are small deductions for each mistake in this area
