Le Passé Irrégulier Many irregular verbs have past participles that are not formed from the infinitive .
These forms must be memorized.
In every other way, the formation of the passé composé of these verbs is the same as for regular verbs.
You create the passé composé using the present tense forms of avoir , followed by the past participle.
Avoir/Être :
Avoir/Être Here are the past participles of some irregular verbs:
Avoir-eu
Vous avez eu un rhume.=You did have a cold.
Être-été
Tu as été au cinéma.= You have been at the movies.
Faire/Mettre :
Faire/Mettre Faire-fait
Il a fait un gâteau.= He made a cake.
Mettre-mis
Nous avons mis ton sac ici.= We put your
backpack here.
Prendre/Voir :

Elles ont pris les clés.=They took the keys.
Voir-vu
J’ ai vu le spectacle hier.=I saw the show yesterday.
Mettre/Prendre :
Mettre/Prendre Verbs that are derivatives of mettre and prendre form their past participles from those verbs:
Promettre - promis
Tu as promis d’aller au marché.
You promised to go to market.
Apprendre - appris
Il a appris la russe.
He learned Russian.

She saw the film.
She did see the film.
She has seen the film.
Être :
Être The verb être has two meanings in the passé composé:
Tu as été à Paris.=You have been in Paris.
Nous avons été à Tours.=You went to Tours.
Il y a :
Il y a Il y a can be made in the passé composé:
Il y a eu=There was, there were
Example:
Il y a eu deux chats sur le lit.=There were two cats on the bed.
