Slide 2:The Five Paragraph Essay FIRST PARAGRAPH(Introduction): -A promise to the reader CONCLUSION: - Summary, restate, look forward. NEXT THREE PARAGRAPHS SUPPORTING DETAILS: -All the ingredients


First Paragraph :First Paragraph Introduction: The purpose of this first paragraph is to tell your audience what it is that you will be explaining, describing, or arguing for or against. This paragraph has a topic sentence and three (3) supporting sentences followed by a concluding sentence which contains some transition.


First Paragraph :First Paragraph The Topic Sentence introduces the topic being discussed and has a controlling idea. The Supporting Sentences that follow the topic sentence are to be the main points of your essay. These Three Supporting Sentences will also be the ideas for the Topic Sentences of paragraphs two, three, and four.


Some rules for Paragraph #1 :Some rules for Paragraph #1 Do not begin I’m going to write/talk about… My essay is about… Well… What I’m trying to say… The topic of this essay is I think My teacher said I….. The assignment… Do Capture your reader’s attention Introduce your topic Provide a preview of coming attractions Transition to the rest of your essay


Next Three Paragraphs :Next Three Paragraphs Paragraphs two, three, and four are the main body of your essay. In these paragraphs will be your information that you are sharing with your reader.


The Conclusion :The Conclusion When concluding your essay, you should restate the points that you have made. Most importantly, you must conclude profoundly…In other words, leave your audience with a “zinger.”
