Unit 2, Lesson 3:

Unit 2, Lesson 3 The Earth’s Crust

Crust:

Crust Like bread, the Earth’s crust is it’s outermost and thinnest layer.

Rocks R Us:

Rocks R Us The crust is made of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks (more about these in Unit 4).

Composition:

Composition The most abundant elements in the crust are oxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron, calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium.

Lithosphere:

Lithosphere The Earth’s crust forms the upper part of the Lithosphere. It is the solid topmost part of the Earth.

Asthenosphere:

Asthenosphere The layer directly beneath the lithosphere is called the asthenosphere. The asthenosphere flows like thick tar, and therefore has plasticity.
