Skeletal System :Skeletal System


Your Bones :Your Bones Every person has a skeleton. It is made up of all of the bones in your body. Humans have 206 bones.


What are Bones Made of? :What are Bones Made of? Bones are alive and growing in our body. Our bones are made up of many minerals, mainly Calcium and Phosphorus.


Your Spine :Your Spine Your backbone is called your spine. It is made up of 26 tiny bones called vertebrae. The spine helps protect your spinal cord, a long bundle of nerves.


Your Ribs :Your Ribs Your ribs, or rib cage is made up of 12 pairs of ribs that attach in your back to your spine. Your rib cage protects your heart, lungs, and liver.


Your Skull :Your Skull Your skull is actually made up of several different bones. It protects the most important organ in your body, your brain.


Your Hands and Arms :Your Hands and Arms Your hands are made up of many tiny bones. They attach to two bones that go from your wrist to your elbow. From your shoulder to your elbow is one long bone. The long bone attaches to your shoulder blade.


Your Legs and Feet :Your Legs and Feet Your leg bones are very long and strong to support your body weight. They are attached to a circular set of bones called the pelvis.


Protect Your Bones :Protect Your Bones Take care of your bones: Protect your skull and brain by wearing a helmet for sports, skateboarding, and biking. Wear the right equipment if you play sports. Strengthen your skeleton by drinking milk and eating dairy products. Be active – it strengthens your skeleton.


Something to Think About :Something to Think About You were born with 300 bones! As you grow, some of the bones grow together. Our skeleton doesn’t finish growing until we are about 25 years old.
