It gives you more energy. It makes your brain work better. It reduces stress. It makes you look better. It is fun. What is Physical Activity? : What is Physical Activity? Exercise is a type of physical activity that is organized and planned. But physical activity means more than just going to a gym, doing jumping jacks or running. Physical activity is ANY activity that uses energy. Four Types of Physical Activity : Four Types of Physical Activity Endurance Activities Strength Activities Balance Activities Flexibility Activities Endurance Activities : Endurance Activities Endurance activities are activities that make your heart beat faster and make you breathe faster. You might even sweat. Some examples of endurance activities are playing tag, jumping rope, or swimming. Strength Activities : Strength Activities Strength activities are activities where you use your muscles. Carrying your laundry basket, helping carry in groceries, or taking the stairs instead of an elevator are examples of strength activities. Balance Activities : Balance Activities Balance activities help you to balance yourself better and keep you from falling. Standing on one foot, walking a log, or gymnastics are all examples of balance activities. Flexibility Activities : Flexibility Activities Flexibility activities stretch your muscles and help you to move more easily. Some flexibility activities include playing Twister, bending over to tie your shoes, or stretching to get something from a high shelf. Physical Activities : Physical Activities Many things we do every day are simple activities: Shoveling snow Raking leaves Walking the dog Catching lightning bugs Playing catch with a football or baseball Walking around an amusement park Swimming Pulling weeds Swinging on a swing Climbing on a jungle gym You should try to have 60 minutes of physical activity every day. You don’t have to do it all at once. You could be active 10 or 15 minutes at a time! : You should try to have 60 minutes of physical activity every day. You don’t have to do it all at once. Something to Think About : Something to Think About You would have to walk for 1 hour and 10 min to use up the energy (calories) from a regular order of french fries.
