Topographic Map:
Topographic Map Shows the different shapes and size of a land surface.
Also shows cities, roads, parks and railroads.
Uses CONTOUR LINES to show relief.
Contour Lines:
Contour Lines The difference in elevation from one contour line to the next is called the contour interval.
Rules of Contour Lines:
Rules of Contour Lines A contour line of one elevation never crosses, or intersects, a contour line of another elevation.
If they did, it would mean that one point would have two different elevations, which is impossible.
Rules of Contour Lines:
Rules of Contour Lines Closely spaced contour lines represent a steep slope.
Lines that are spaced far apart represent a gentle slope.
Rules of Contour Lines:
Rules of Contour Lines Contour lines that cross a valley are āVā shaped.
If a stream flows through the valley, the āVā will point upstream, or in the direction opposite to the flow of the stream.
