The Theory of Multiple Intelligences :

The Theory of Multiple Intelligences An Introduction

Brain Basics :

Brain Basics Brain parts Cerebellum Cerebrum Medulla

Three Main Parts of the Brain :

Three Main Parts of the Brain Cerebrum- this is the largest part of your brain and is the part where you learn, hear, see, taste and feel, it also controls your muscles Cerebellum- Controls balance, so you don’t fall over when you walk Medulla- Controls the functioning of your internal organs

Neurons :

Neurons These are specialized cells that are designed to receive and transmit messages in the brain and throughout the body. When you learn something new, these cells make new connections with each other When you practice, you strengthen the connections between the neurons

Neurons in the Brain :

Neurons in the Brain Dendrites- receives info Cell body- main part of neuron Axon- carries info to next neuron Neuron dendrites Neuron cell body Neuron axon

Brain and Neuron Recap :

Brain and Neuron Recap Your brain has parts that perform certain functions The part where you learn is the cerebrum The brain is composed of cells called neurons Learning involves strengthening connections between neurons

Learning :

Learning For many years we believed that everyone learned in the same way

Multiple Intelligences :

Multiple Intelligences Theory that states that humans can learn in many different ways

Multiple Intelligences :

Multiple Intelligences This theory was proposed by Howard Gardner To learn more about Howard Gardner go to www.howardgardner.com

Linguistic :

Linguistic Involves the ability to use language to express yourself. Writers, speakers and lawyers would be examples of professions where a person would have to have a high degree of linguistic intelligence.

Visual/Spatial :

Visual/Spatial The ability to represent the spatial world internally in your mind(like a navigator) or like a chess player sees moves. Painters and sculptors, as well as sciences use this kind of intelligence. In order for a doctor to understand Anatomy, they would need this kind of intelligence.

Kinesthetic :

Kinesthetic This involves the use of the whole body or body parts to solve a problem, make something, or put on a production. This would be applied to activities such as athletics, drama and dance.

Musical/Rhythmic :

Musical/Rhythmic This kind of intelligence involves being able to hear patterns, recognize them, remember them and manipulate them. Dancing, playing a musical instrument, writing music, singing, writing poetry all involve this type of intelligence.

Interpersonal :

Interpersonal People with this type of intelligence are good at understanding other people. Teachers, doctors, nurses, salespersons would all need interpersonal skill.

Intrapersonal Intelligence :

Intrapersonal Intelligence People with this type of intelligence are good at understanding themselves. This type of person makes a good leader because they tend to have very clear direction and know what they can and cannot do.

Naturalistic :

Naturalistic People with this type of intelligence have the ability to discriminate among living things(plants, animals) as well as having sensitivity to other features of the natural world. Environmentalists, Biology teachers, farmers, wildlife managers are examples of people with a high degree of this type of intelligence.

Mathematical/Logical :

Mathematical/Logical People with this type of intelligence understand the underlying principles of natural phenomena or can manipulate numbers, quantities and operations. Scientists, mathematicians, and engineers have a high level of this type of intelligence
