The food guide pyramid is an eating plan of what you should eat every day using a picture instead of words. 2 What is the food guide pyramid? : What is the food guide pyramid? The food guide pyramid shows you all of the food groups and how much you should eat from each group every day. It also pictures a man walking up a staircase to show that you should also exercise every day for good health. 3 Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid : Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid The largest section of the food guide pyramid is the grains section which has the bread, cereal, rice and pasta foods. It is the largest section because you should eat more of these foods every day than any other section of the pyramid. It is shown on the picture as the large orange wedge on the left side of the pyramid. 4 Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid : Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid The next largest section of the food guide pyramid is the vegetable section. It is the next largest section because you should eat many of these foods every day. It is shown on the picture as the large green wedge on the left side of the pyramid. 5 Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid : Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid Another larger section of the food guide pyramid is the fruit section. It is also a larger section because you should eat many of these foods every day. It is shown on the picture as the large red wedge near the center of the pyramid. 6 Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid : Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid Another larger section of the food guide pyramid is the milk section which has the milk, yogurt and cheese foods. It is also a larger section because you should eat many of these foods every day. It is shown on the picture as the large light blue wedge to the right of the pyramid. 7 Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid : Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid A smaller section of the food guide pyramid is the meat and beans section which has the meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs and nut foods. It is a smaller section because you do not need to eat as many of these foods every day. It is shown on the picture as the small purple wedge on the right side of the pyramid. 8 Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid : Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid The smallest section of the food guide pyramid is the oils section which has the fats, oils and sweets foods. It is the smallest section because you should not eat these foods every day. These are once in a while foods. It is shown on the picture as the tiny yellow wedge near the center of the pyramid. 9 Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid : Sections of the Food Guide Pyramid The staircase section of the food guide pyramid is the daily physical activity section. It is recommended that all children should have at least 1 hour of physical activity every day.
