Step 1 :Step 1 Identify the Problem
What is the decision you have to make?
Get a job?
Study for a test?
Eat an apple or a cupcake?
Step 2 :Step 2 Gather information
You should have as much information about the issue as you possibly can
Get a job – where, hours, transportation
Study for a test – time frame, social, availability of information
Apple or cupcake – exercise, nutrient value, feelings
Step 3 :Step 3 Pros
Identify all positive aspects of the information you gathered
Earn money
Good grades
Healthy eating habits
Cons
Identify all negative aspects of the information you gathered
Time away from friends/family
Poor grades
Energy crash/not feel well
Step 4 :Step 4 Evaluate your Pros and Cons
What should you do?
Look carefully at your pros and cons
Discuss with a family member
What would be best for you
What are your values
Step 5 :Step 5 Make your decision
You will make your decision based on your values, time and what’s important to you and your family
Step 6 :Step 6 Follow up
Was the decision you made the right choice?
If it is – GREAT!
If it is not – what can you do to correct it?
What would you do differently next time?
Was there more information?
Could you have interviewed people to give you ‘inside’ information?
