Social Bookmarking is… an online web tool that allows a person to save, share, search, manage, and organize web pages on the internet by creating bookmarks.

How Does it work?:

How Does it work? Choose a social bookmarking website Create an account Install the website’s bookmarking tool to your tool bar Begin bookmarking!

To Create a bookmark…:

To Create a bookmark… Choose a webpage Click the bookmark tool in your toolbar A window will pop up and then you will add a “tag” and description for your bookmark Click save . . . It’s bookmarked!

What’s a “tag” anyway?:

What’s a “tag” anyway? They are assigned keywords given to bookmarks One bookmark can be given single or multiple “tags” Provides the ability to organize and manage bookmarks Allows for bookmarks to be found easily when someone is searching specific keywords

How is Social Bookmarking social ? When the setting is on “public,” bookmarks are easily accessed by anyone It gives the opportunity to share resources with others You can access bookmarks created by others

Social Bookmarking is great for Teachers! Some sites allow teachers to set up groups and create bookmarks for their students or the students can create bookmarks to share and use for research Tagging allows teachers to create multiple tags for a bookmark based on all of the different aspects that may be useful Easy access to instructional and education sites
