2009-2010 Student Organization Orientation :2009-2010 Student Organization Orientation UNT Student Activities Center
Intro :Allow time to view presentation in its entirety and complete the Orientation Quiz
Orientation Quiz is required as part of the 2009-2010 Organization Registration Process

Student Activities Center :The SAC is located in Suite 320 of the University Union

Student Organizations :Basic Guidelines:
Complete all Registration Forms each Fall
An Advisor
Minimum of 4 members
Current copy of the constitution
Officers maintain a 2.25 GPA
Membership only for currently enrolled students Student Organizations
Benefits of being registered :Listings in all SAC directories and websites
Use of University’s buildings and facilities
Participation in leadership retreats
Eligibility for Student Organization Awards
Qualify for Eagle’s Nest Funding Benefits of being registered
Services & Resources :Organizational Mailboxes
Use of SAC mailing address
Classroom reservations
Event Planning Consultation
150 FREE copies/semester
Computers, fax machine, etc.
Offices Services & Resources
Recognized Status :Special status created for associations of students in a school, college, or department whose primary purpose is to advance academic interest of the student body or the University community.
Requires:
2 continuous years of registration
Meet all of the Campus Club Committee Requirements
Have a purpose aligned with the purpose and goals of the University Recognized Status
Privileges of Recognized Orgs :Use of the University name as part of their title
Apply for funds through Student Service Fees
Use of the University logo
Serving on advisory boards Privileges of Recognized Orgs
2009-2010 Registration Process :Complete the Orientation Quiz
Representative will receive OrgSync password
Log-on to OrgSync portal
Complete the 2009-2010 Registration Form (in Forms folder under the Tools tab)
Upload copy of constitution

Checking Accounts :Need an account:
Apply for tax-id # (SS-4 form) from IRS at www.irs.gov
Complete Checking Account Verification Form, allow 3-4 days to process
Take letter from SAC to Wells Fargo
Updating an account:
Complete Checking Account Verification Form to add or delete names, allow 3-4 days to process
Take letter from SAC to Wells Fargo
**All persons being added to account must be present with letter at Wells Fargo.** Checking Accounts
Event Planning 101 :Changes have been made to the Event Application Process
Events with:
Food and/or beverages
Tickets for admission
Off-campus guests
Hazardous materials (fire, sledge hammer)
More than 100 attendees
Alcohol
Any kind of physical activity (flag football, basketball etc.)
Minors
Now must be turned in 15 business days prior to the event, not counting the day of the event. Event Planning 101
Event Planning cont’d. :Complete Event Application with all necessary signatures to SAC 10 or 15 days prior to the event
Notification of approval or denial will be placed in the student organization’s mailbox
May be referred to Event Safety Committee (ESC) Event Planning cont’d.
Event Safety Committee :The purpose of the ESC is to ensure that student organization events are executed in the safest way possible.
The ESC and its Chair will:
Schedule a safety meeting regarding your event
Org must comply with all requirements set by ESC in order to have the event
Before attending the meeting complete the Event Safety Guidelines Form Event Safety Committee
Solicitation :Any organization’s attempt to gain funds, support, membership, or contributions.
Solicitation Forms are required 5 business days prior to the event, and for no longer than a 3day period
Solicitation tables are only allowed in or around the Union
The selling of merchandise or soliciting donations require the Dir. Of Business Services signature Solicitation
OrgSync Forms :Forms that can be found on OrgSync and do not have to be brought into the SAC include:
Room Reservation Forms
Checking Account Verification Forms
Free Speech Applications
Organization Office Lottery Applications
Student Organization of the Month Applications OrgSync Forms
Student Organization of the Month :The organization that is selected as SOTM will receive a $55 co-sponsorship from the SAC , and recognition in The Informer.
To apply submit an application on OrgSync detailing what your organization did in terms of service, philanthropy, and/or any awards received by the 15th of each month. Student Organization of the Month
Spirit Cup Competition :New incentive program for student organizations; Orgs earn points by:
Sponsoring or attending campus activities
Promoting school spirit
Uniting with other orgs
Promoting educational and professional development
Encouraging a “Go Green” environment
The award will be given to the org that earns the most points at the end of the year. Spirit Cup Competition
Spirit Cup cont’d :Orgs may begin earning points as soon as registration is complete; the competition ends before the Student Recognition & Awards Ceremony
Spirit Cup Verification forms will be available in both the SAC and the CLS
All winners will be presented at the Student Recognition & Awards Ceremony
The winner(s) will receive funds and/or resources for programming, recognition by the SAC & the CLS, a commemorative plaque, and org name engraved on the Spirit Cup trophy Spirit Cup cont’d
