What is Marriage?:

What is Marriage? Marriage is defined as a union or contract between people that creates kinship. People marry for social, legal, economic and religious reasons, among other things. Statement of Love and Comitment to each other.

Civil Rights:

Civil Rights African Americans and Women fought for equal rights throughout the United State’s history, and both groups, along with others have pushed through government restrictions on personal freedom.

Loving v. Virginia 1967:

Loving v. Virginia 1967 The Lovings were an interracial couple from Virginia who were wed in D.C., when they returned to VA, they were arrested, convicted and sentenced to jail since interracial marriage was illegal in Virginia still. The Supreme Court ruled that bans on interracial marriage were unconstitutional.

The 14th Amendment:

The 14th Amendment All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Why would the 14th amendment EXCLUDE Gay Rights? “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge (shorten) the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States;” Doesn’t a ban on gay marriage shorten a privilege to our citizens?

Arguments Against It will tear away the foundations of traditional marriage What about today’s “traditional” marriage is the same as it used to be? Marriage laws have been changing for thousands of years. There is nothing traditional about conventional marriages.

Arguments against It is against God’s Will as said in the Bible There are many things the bible tells us we shouldn’t do; “And the pig, though it has a divided hoof, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you. You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you.”(Leviticus 11:7-8) "You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28). "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, NOR DRUNKARDS, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” (Corinthians 6:10)

If we all followed the Bible’s suggestions then; There would be no ham, hot dogs, pork chops, sausage, or football Sex before marriage, or even looking at the opposite sex in a “sinful manner,” as well as masturbation would probably be punishable by death. Drinking will not permit you into Heaven

Arguments Against Children need a Mom and a Dad What about single parents? Those kids only have one parent, by this standard wouldn’t that be considered worse? There is no credible study that shows children are negatively impacted by having same sex parents.

Arguments Against The purpose of Marriage is to produce offspring There are many straight married couples that never have kids. Same-Sex couples could adopt children who would otherwise not have parents Answer to the overpopulation problem.

Arguments Against Allowing Same Sex Marriage would allow it to spread. Of Course! And Good! Other nations and people all over the world should learn to accept this. The United States has been a civil rights leader in the past, and should continue its path with this.

Arguments Against It would bring about retribution. Why would the Almighty God decide that allowing same sex marriage is the end all compared to all the other issues in the world? Also, why does God seem to be this violent, angry megalomaniac who wants to destroy people all the time because of our actions?

Arguments Against:

Arguments Against Most of the arguments against Same Sex marriage have to do with religious reasons. This is an interference of church and state, which is supposed to be separated in our government. Many people who are married who are straight have no religious affiliation at all, showing the religious arguments are biased against a certain group of people and not others.
