The Inca peoples were a very advanced civilization for their time, excelling in the arts….

Slide 5:

Born out of wedlock, Francisco Pizarro was raised by his grandparents. He never learned to read or write, so he ended up herding pigs… Fifteen years of pig herding and he quit to move to Haiti in search of more money, in 1502.

He made his first expedition in 1509, with Balboa, another famous explorer…

Slide 11:

Eighteen years later in 1523, Pizarro made his own expedition in search of the Incas, in order to gain land and riches for Spain.

Slide 16:

Pizarro and his men were ruthless, killing off most of the Inca population, including the children, women and elderly. Any Incan left was forced to convert to Christianity.

The Spanish gained even more territory and riches from Pizarro’s expedition…

…but it was noted that there was a 93% decline in the Incan population from the years 1520- 1571
