Cells :
Cells Cardiomyocytes- make up muscle cells in the heart
The myocardium consists of specialized muscles cells called cardiomyocytes
Muscle cells make up the tissues in the heart
Blood cells- bloods cells pump through the heart to all areas of the body
Tissues :
Tissues There are three main tissues in the heart
Cardiac muscle- found in the left and right atriums; perform the pumping of the heart
Smooth muscle- allows heart to expand and contract
Endothelial cells- stop blood from moving to the muscle and prevent clotting

Organs :
Organs The human heart is an organ located in between the lungs that is about the size of a human fist
It is composed of four chambers that consist of arteries and veins
The two upper chambers are called the atrium
The two lower chambers are called the ventricles
The left side of the heart receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it to the rest of the body
Oxygenated blood is circulated throughout the entire body allowing for life to continue

Organ System :
Organ System The cardiovascular system is in charge of pumping blood throughout the body
An average adult human heart beats 100,000 times a day and pumps 2,000 gallons of blood through the body every day
Oxygenated blood pumped from the left side of the heart keeps the human body functioning
Without the cardiovascular system, none of the other organ systems would have the ability to do work
