School Children’s Health Act of 2006 (Requires Integrated Pest Management as of October 1, 2011) Requirements include: P rincipal or the principal's designee shall notify annually students' parents-guardians-custodians as well as school staff of the schedule of pesticide use on school property and their right to request notification prior to application. Such notification shall be made, to the extent possible, at least 72 hours in advance of nonscheduled pesticide use on school property.

What is IPM?:

What is IPM? IPM is a holistic, preventive approach to managing pests that minimizes pesticide use in our schools and on school grounds. IPM is a continual process and not just event. IPM combines biological, physical, chemical and cultural tactics, and emphasizes pest prevention by eliminating the cause of pests by minimizing access to food, water and hiding places.

Annual Notice Requirement Annual notification of the IPM program is provided to student’s parents-guardians-custodians in the CMS Parent Student Handbook. Annual Notification will also be provided in writing (via email) to all staff members prior to the beginning of the calendar school year.

Application Notification Requirement Students’ parents-guardians-custodians and/or staff may request advance notice of nonscheduled and emergency pesticide applications at their facility by returning a completed Request for Advance Notification form to the facility IPM Contact. Request for Advance Notification forms are available to for your access at online at www.website .XXX location. Completed Request for Advance Notification forms are to be kept in a registry maintained by the facility IPM Contact for the purpose of providing Advance Notice when such applications are to take place.

IPM Pest Sighting Log The Pest Sighting Log is used by facility IPM contacts to record facility staff reports of potential pest problems. Example: DATE TIME PEST LOCATION 01/10/11 1:00PM Spiders Classroom A-15 01/11/11 6:00AM Mouse Cafeteria 01/12/11 10:00AM Wasp Playground/Under the slide 01/12/11 11:00AM Ants At front door The Pest Sighting Log also has space for Pest Management Technicians to record remedial actions and to address reported pest problems as well as any recommendations made for pest prevention. Example: ACTION TAKEN TECH Removed food source, emptied trash can. Recommended that the teacher put snacks in an John B. Goode Air-tight container. IPM Facility Contact:

IPM Facility Contact The facility IPM Contact is an Assistant Principal or Administrative Secretary designated annually by the Principal or site manager to be the local point of information regarding the CMS IPM program. As facility IPM Contact you are responsible for: communicating with information requestors, keeping a register of requests, keeping a register of pest sightings communicating with Building Services IPM team as necessary. reading and making the IPM Operational Control available by clicking here >>> IPM WEBPAGE

Maintain the Pest Sighting Log for your facility.
