Which Genre do you and your child prefer? : There are so many different genres of books. Which Genre do you and your child prefer? Fantasy : Fantasy A story that includes elements that are impossible. This could include talking animals or magical powers. Realistic Fiction : Realistic Fiction This is a story using made up characters, but the events could truly happen in real life. Mystery : Mystery A suspenseful story about a puzzling event that is not solved until the end of the story. Historical Fiction : Historical Fiction A fiction story that takes place in a particular time period in the past. Often the setting is real, but the characters are made up from the author’s imagination. Traditional Literature : Traditional Literature These are stories that are passed down from one group to another in history. This includes folktales, legends, fables, fairy tales, tall tales, and myths from different cultures. Science Fiction : Science Fiction This is a type of fantasy that uses science and technology. Informational : Informational These are books that provide facts about a variety of objects. Biography : Biography The story of a real person’s life written by another person. Autobiography : Autobiography A story of a real person’s life written by that person. Poetry : Poetry Poetry is a verse written to create a response of thought and reading from the reader. It often uses rhythm and rhyme. Still not interested? : Still not interested? There are millions of others books to choose from in each genre.
