Slide 2: 

In 2003 conflict began in western religions of the Sudan. The genocide started when rebels demanded greater political and economic rights for black Darfurians from the Arab-dominated Sudanese government. The government then responded by sending out Arab militias known as the Janjaweed.

Slide 5: 

The United Nations has called this conflict “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.”

Slide 7: 

The Janjaweed militia group go through villages torching houses, stealing and destroying crops. They also rape and kill villagers. The attacks are often accompanied by Sudanese bombers and grounded troops.

24 000 people have fled from their homes, at least 200 000 civilians have been killed, 2.5 million have been displaced and are living in refugee camps in Chad (beside Darfur)

Pressure is being placed on the government although actions against Sudan, including sanctions has been resisted by China who is Sudan's biggest oil customer and Russia who helped set up their oil industry and sold Sudan weapons
