Bio-Related Technology is any technology related to the assistance of life Where is Bio-Related Technology? : Where is Bio-Related Technology? The Human Brain/Body : The Human Brain/Body Technology is developed to meet human needs. Therefore, understanding the human body helps us understand all technology especially Bio-Technology. Genetic Engineering : Genetic Engineering Genetic Engineering is when the DNA of a living thing is manipulated to the a societal need. Where is GE used? : Where is GE used? Food products are often altered to create higher quality and quantity of food. This is done through genetic engineering. How Does GE Work? : How Does GE Work? Genetic Engineering is done using a technique called “gene splicing”. This is where the DNA from a donor cell and put into the DNA of a Host cell. Cloning : Cloning Cloning is a form of genetic engineering that alters and/or combines the DNA of animals to create a desired effect that meets a societal need. Where is cloning used? : Where is cloning used? Cloning is used to restore the health of animals and also to create animals for consumption. How Does Cloning Work? : How Does Cloning Work? Cloning of plants can be done by using the Cutting Techniques or Tissue Culture Techique. Cloning of animals can be done by cloning the emboyonic cells or the adult cells. Prosthetics : Prosthetics Prosthetics is the creation of artificial limbs that function the same as real-life limbs. Where are prosthetic used? : Where are prosthetic used? Prosthetics are used to allow people who have lost limbs to perform normal daily tasks. How Do Prosthetics Work? : How Do Prosthetics Work? In order to create a prosthetic limb careful planning and preparation take place followe by precision cutting and fastening. Careful measurements ar taken to determine the size of the limb. Then, a mold of the limb is made to test the function of the limb. The limb is then fabricated and programmed to perform common tasks. Other Forms Of Bio-Technology : Other Forms Of Bio-Technology There are many other forms of Bio-technology like pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and bio-fuels which we have not discussed. Remember, Bio-technology is any technology that assists the sustaining of life.
