A Disciple is the pupil of someone and not a teacher. The disciple not only accepts the views of the teacher, but also lives by what they have been taught. The word has several applications, such as: John the Baptist had disciples (Mat 9:14; Lu 7:18; Jo 3:25); as did the Pharisees (Mat 22:16; Mk 2:18; and Lu 5:33). Most commonly it refers to Jesus disciples as seen in Matthew 10:42; Luke 6:17; John 6:65-67).Becoming a Disciple: The life of the disciples who work in God’s kingdom, in many ways are like the monarch butterfly, although neither the disciple or butter start out that way. The disciple begins to take shape when the seed of God’s Word is planted in their heart. Becoming a Disciple This smallest of all the seeds in the world grows larger than any other plant. It spreads its mighty branches so that birds may nest in its shade. (Mar 4:30-32) From Egg to Caterpillar: From Egg to Caterpillar The seed that becomes a disciple is much like the egg that goes from being a caterpillar to a butterfly. The potential is present from the time the egg is laid, the seed planted, or someone tells them about Jesus. Only when they accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior does the metamorphosis into a butterfly begin. Once the egg matures a tiny little creature creeps out to look around at its marvelous new world. Then it turns around and heads back to the egg from whence it came to partake of the nourishment provided. From Egg to Caterpillar: From Egg to Caterpillar When off track, we must turn and get into the word so we can partake of the nourishment it provides. Only then can we grow strong in the Lord and complete our transformation to become a disciple. Our soul needs to be strengthened in the spirit, being nourished with the implanted word of God. Just as the pupa exits the egg to becomes a caterpillar it returns to the egg, eating it for nourishment. So then a disciple returns and eats of the seed, which seed is the word of God (Luke 8:11) Caterpillar to Chrysalis: Caterpillar to Chrysalis As a caterpillar eats the leaves of plants its transformation is initiated, just as a Christian partakes of the Word of God , he or she soon finds that their transformation has begun. Once it reaches a certain phase, the caterpillar begins to split, and sheds one skin after another, and a new creation emerges . It is now closer to becoming the elegant monarch butterfly just as the Christian sheds its old ways to become a true disciple. Caterpillar to Chrysalis: Caterpillar to Chrysalis Thus, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2Co 5:17) So then, the disciple, either man or woman, shed their old self, taking off the old and putting on the new clothes of Christ. The Chrysalis or Christ in Us: The Chrysalis or Christ in Us Now firmly attached our position to the teachings we received is not so much where we position ourselves but how. Firmly attached we can swing free and like the butterfly we begin our metamorphosis into the creature God intended. An inner transformation takes place as we bend and stretch , the final skin of the caterpillar is shed and a chrysalis emerges. The true colors of the disciple can be seen as with Peter and Judas. Chrysalis to Christ-like: Chrysalis to Christ-like Both Peter and Judas denied Christ, yet, Judas despised what he had done and went and hung himself, while Peter repented and emerged as a powerful man of God. Like the butterfly is newborn in the morning; it spreads its wings, then dries and flies off, sometimes in the company of others. Unlike the butterfly, the disciple travels with companions. And in time, it too lays eggs or seeds of the Word that will produce more disciples like the monarch butterflySlide 10: The End GPS for Life: Guidance of a Personal Savior www.brandyancoffee.net You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
