Prevention: : Prevention: It is cheaper and easier to prevent disease than to pay to repair it. 3 Things are needed to create decay and ugly white spots: Tooth Bacteria Sugar Since we do not want to eliminate the tooth, we need to eliminate Bacteria and the Sugar. Bacteria: : Bacteria: Studies have shown when you eliminate bacteria no decay can occur. You eliminate bacteria by brushing and flossing. It is the in between meal sweets that create the problems. You Should: : You Should: Brush twice a day. The most important spot to brush is where the teeth touch the gums. Floss: : Floss: You should floss once a day, or after a meal when you find food stuck between your teeth. Flossing helps prevent gum disease, and floss goes where no tooth brush can reach. Sealant: : Sealant: You can modify the top of a tooth surface by placing a sealant. Sometimes, the best thing we can do is to remove a baby eye tooth. TMJ: : TMJ: When our patients have TMJ problems we ask them to fill out our TMJ Checklist. Elimination of the harmful habits on our TMJ checklist has helped our patients reduce or eliminate TMJ pain. Also, the oil and dirt on your hands can cause pimples. Many of our patients squeeze their teeth (clench) during times of stress. This can cause headaches and break teeth. Learn to keep air between your teeth!! Splint: : Splint: A splint helps also. The splint prevents you from grinding your teeth at night, and it keeps your teeth straight also.
