The country that wins a war should have to pay for its damages. The country that loses a war should have to pay for its damages. The richest country should have to pay for a war’s damages. Countries should pay equal amounts for a war’s damages. Countries should only have to pay for damages to themselves in a war. Countries should pay for whatever damage their soldiers created in a war. A country should have to pay for damage in a war if they were on the wrong side in the war. It really depends. Other? Slide 3: 1. Much of the South was destroyed in the Civil War. 2. At the end of the Civil War, a Northern general named William Tecumseh Sherman marched through the South and destroyed everything he could find. Slide 4: A. Captured the city of Atlanta by cutting supply lines into the city. 3. Sherman: Slide 5: B. Burned the city of Atlanta so the North could not reclaim it. Slide 6: C. Marched through Georgia and destroyed farmlands and railroads. Slide 7: D. Made the war as awful as possible for the South. Slide 8: 4. In addition, the end of slavery had hurt the economy in the South. Slide 10: 5. Plantation owners were no longer able to grow cotton, and so they had to change their way of life. Notes : Notes 6. The end of slavery also changed society in the South. 7. Freed slaves were now (supposedly) able to: A. become citizens B. have rights of citizens (like Due Process and Equal Protection) C. vote Slide 12: 8. So, after the Civil War, America had to rebuild—or reconstruct the South’s: A. Economy – the way they made money B. Society – the way people lived their daily lives C.
