Notes 1. The first guy isBarack Obama (duh). He is the President of the U.S. 2. The second guy isJohn Roberts. He is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (and from Buffalo!!)

Notes 3. The United States has one document that says how it can make its laws. That document is called theConstitution.  4. The Constitution lists three parts of the government: A. Executive Branch: the President & Cabinet B. Legislative Branch: Congress C. Judicial Branch: the Supreme Court

5. Congress makes the laws. 6. The President signs bills and enforces the law. 7. The Supreme Court decides if laws follow the Constitution or not. We vote on what the nation’s laws should be!! OK, Congress, but remember I have to sign it to make it a law.

Notes 8. The Dred Scott Case took place in the year1857 and involved an important Supreme Court decision that took placeabout slavery. 9. The effects of this decision increased tensions and distrustbetween North and South.

“Lawyer Two” : 

“Lawyer Two” Hopes to prove that Dred Scott will always be a slave. Argues that Dred Scott isproperty in the South andstill property in the North. Says that Dred Scott should be kept in slavery forever because he was born a slave.
